Jana and Alan-May 27th, 2007

Jana and Alan had their wedding this weekend at the Sheraton Delfina in Santa Monica. It was the first time there for me, and I thought it was a pretty cool place. The Event Planner was Robyn Goldberg, and she was a delight to work with. Everything ran incredibly smoothly. The gorgeous bouquets were provided by Mr B’s Flowers. Photography was provided by Vernon Williams. I love working with Vernon. He has such a great attitude. Not only a phenomenal photographer, but truly a great human being.

The bride and groom met at UCLA, so we all took the limo over there, before the ceremony, for photos.
Steven Carr Reuben from Temple Kehillat Israel performed a lovely ceremony, and the Masta Band from De Bois Entertainment rocked the reception.
I was blown away to see William Kennedy from the “Yellowjackets” playing drums. I am a huge fan.

So here is a short highlight reel of the event. Congratulations to Jana and Alan, two awesome people clearly in love!

Claire’s 100th Birthday Party

May 20th, 2007- The Four Seasons, Beverly Hills.

lax_001_320×400_web-large.jpg

I have been documenting this wonderful family for over 10 years, and I consider Claire’s daughter Ruth to be my second mother.
What a wonderful Simcha last Saturday night, celebrating 100 years! Nate and I filmed the party and Brian Hodes was on hand for the photography duties. I have know Brian even longer, and he is like a brother. So you can tell this was indeed a family affair.

CBS 2 KCAL was also there to run a story, which appeared that night in the news. Here is the clip:

WEVA & PMA Achieve ‘World First’ in Wedding Video Education
May 12, 2007

Sarasota, FL - An extraordinary two-day conference of cutting-edge workshops presented by Wedding & Event Videographers Association International (WEVA) last week at the PMA-Australia 2007 Imaging Technology Expo broke new ground on a global level by expanding professional development opportunities for wedding and event videographers in the Asia-Pacific region.

“Last week’s conference in Melbourne was an exciting and history-making event for our members, and our industry at-large, and was made possible through a dedicated strategic initiative developed jointly by WEVA and PMA. We are proud to be leading the effort to expand continuing education for wedding and event videographers worldwide,” said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman.

“We fully expect the sharing and exchange of information that occurred last week to blossom in a profusion of new creativity in video. It’s what makes this educational initiative so inspiring for our industry. We’ll be announcing other programs at the international level shortly, including a WEVA ‘first-ever’ program in Europe next month.”

Enthusiasm for the two-day video conference in Melbourne has already hit the Internet. “The video presentations from all tutors were jaw-dropping, and ‘how did they do that with one camera… or how was that effect done,’ were all answered. What we gained is what other members have missed out,” wrote Lynton Brown of Horsham, Victoria on the WEVA Forums. “It has made me look at my business outside the square and in a whole new perspective.”

At PMA-Australia 2007, the WEVA sessions, under the helm of WEVA’s Director of Educational Development John Zale, incorporated video production and marketing workshops by WEVA Creative Excellence Award-winning videographers. The history-making team of WEVA presenters featured Chris Chibucos, Ross Herewini, Jenny Lehman, Natalie Neal, Teo Eng Tiong, and Dave Williams. Also featured on the WEVA platform, were state-of-the-art presentations by edit system trainers from Canopus/Grass Valley and Adobe Systems.

Unfortunately I was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts, but judging from Dave Williams home video, they had a blast!

Dave Williams, who is an award winning videographer from Philadelphia, stopped in to visit me in Los Angeles, while on his way down under.
Please check out his website. He is doing some really cool things. (i’m only plugging him ’cause he bought me a great dinner!)

Tori’s Bat Mitzvah Recap

This one’s from last year, but Tori’s way to cute not to have it posted. We custom designed the “film” overlay, then simply treated the video with a sepia filter. Enjoy!

From This Past Weekend-Liz and Peter’s Wedding

This is a new feature david robin | films will be bringing you each week.

Shot just this weekend (May 12th, 2007) Liz and Peter wed at the Hahn Estate in Santa Barbara. The weather was beyond perfect. The Event Planners, VP Events, did an astounding job putting it all together, including (a total surprise for the groom) the gospel choir and wedding carriage!

Photography was provided by two lovely ladies from San Francisco, Jennifer Skog Photography. Great work. Check out the website.

Music was provided by the Dry Martinis from Mark Wood Entertainment, and boy could they swing. I felt I was back in Vegas in the 50’s watching Frank and Basie perform to a sell out audience.

GPVA Battle of the Editors Contest

We recently donated raw footage of a wedding to the Greater Philadelphia Videographers Association for their “Battle of the Editors Contest”.
Here is some info from the GPVA:

GPVA Battle of the Editors Contest

It’s The Clash of the Titans!
GPVA Battle of the Editors Contest!

“It’s that time again! This years GPVA Battle of the editors will prove to be one of the most challenging to date!
Twelve studios are all given the same exact footage to edit into a Three minute and Thirty second masterpiece.
Come out and see how creative and unique our members can be. Who will unseat the reigning champion? Who will think outside of the box?
Our members will vote and awards given to the top three edits. You won’t want to miss this!”

Best of luck to all the contestants, and we cant wait to see our work edited from several different perspectives.

Peg’s 80th Birthday Montage

David,

The montage you did was spectacular. I just watched it again last night, free from 300 people laughing and clapping, and you did a really great job. I can’t tell you how many emails and notes I’ve received from people thanking me for the party and mentioning the “history”. Thanks so very much.
Peg
