On November 18, 2009, two generations of friends gathered at the legendary Westlake Recording Studios in Hollywood to create a very special tribute to the extraordinary Powell Family.
Screened before a sold-out crowd at JVS’ Annual Gala on January 30, 2010, the video kicked off the presentation of JVS’ prestigious Lifetime of Service Awards to Joyce and Larry & Debbie and Rick Powell.
This mini documentary contains the behind-the-scenes Story Behind The Song and the music video We Love The Powells.
A david robin | films Production, the project was executive produced by John Goldsmith, written and produced Katherine Moore with music direction by Mary Flowers. Directed by David Robin.
For Brooke’s Bat Mitzvah Concept Video we entered the exciting world of Extreme Cakes. These types of challenges being increasingly popular on The Food Network, intrigued our Bat Mitzvah girl to try her own.
Special thanks to Chef Bryan Cox from Hillcrest Country Club, who not only opened his kitchens to us, but acted as Emcee!

This Photo Montage (i think our best yet) for our B’nai Mitzvah client, was inspired by the Beatles, and the “Love” show.
My digital artist Luis spent nine weeks of his life bringing this to life. Working closely with Luis I came up with different themes and concepts for each song I wanted to use. Choosing the right music was easy – I used all my personal favorite Beatles tunes!
Slowly it all took shape. However, running out of time we brought in our second digital artist Matt, who in one weekend created the Strawberry Fields/Across the Universe section. Amazing!
“Are your still breathing? Because my dearest friend….I am not.
David you have just taken my breath away….completely. And, I thought “Entourage” was over the top. Now, here I am with my jaw on the ground. I cannot believe what I just watched…and am about to watch again…and again. Your photo montage masterpiece with the Beatles score is absolutely beyond belief. It is, without a doubt, THE most phenomenal montage artistry I have ever seen anywhere, anytime …. on video, TV, movies…anywhere! Every second of this montage is a talking point in itself. You have not only reinvented Yourself ….you have reinvented the whole entire genre of “photo montage” pure and simple. And they said it couldn’t be done. I am just stunned. This work needs to be transferred to ultra hi-res because there is really only one proper way to watch it… on the movie screen. That is where it belongs!!”
WOW, thank you Mr. Chapman!
The biggest challenge was using all 150 photos and home movie clips in a ten minute time frame. I think we succeeded! Hope you like it. Please leave feedback.
Had a lot of fun creating this Bar Mitzvah concept video inspired by the movie “Animal House”. I really tried to capture the “heart” of the original movie without having to touch any of the R rated content. These are 13 year olds after all!
The supremely talented Loyd Calomay helped with a ton of the writing as well as helping out on our main shoot day. So a HUGE thank you to him for all his efforts.
Other crew members included cinematographer Anthony Kuhnz, audio assistant Alex Bromberg and digital effects artist Luis Naranjo.
