Press Release:

MADISON, WI–January 21, 2008—Today EventDV magazine unveiled the 2007 EventDV 25, and David Robin of david robin | films was named to the list as one of the 25 hottest and most influential event videographers in the business. The honorees were announced in the February 2008 issue of EventDV, and were recognized on Monday, January 21 in a special awards presentation during the opening night gala of the 4EVER Group’s Video 08 convention in Orlando, Florida.

“As the event video industry’s one and only all-star team, the EventDV 25 gives us the opportunity to recognize those videographers who are wielding the most influence today, through their innovative work, educational efforts, and outreach to other videographers,” said EventDV Editor-in-Chief Stephen Nathans-Kelly. “To make sure we recognized the right people, we turned the selection process entirely over to the ‘fans,’ and let our readers pick the team. Over the two-month online voting process, the readers cast well over a thousand votes, and our all-star team emerged.”

In addition to voting for their selections, readers had the opportunity to defend their choices with a brief description of their chosen candidate’s merits. Of David Robin, voters wrote, “He has set a standard that will keep the rest of us reaching for a long, long time.”

EventDV, the Authority for Event Videographers, is published monthly by Information Today, Inc. and read by over 27,000 event videographers and independent video producers around the world. For more information on EventDV, visit www.eventdv.net.

AIDS Awareness Ride

I was fortunate enough today (12/1) to document a 27 mile bike ride to represent the 27 years of HIV/AIDS.
It is days like this when i realize there are so much more important things in life than my morning Caramel Apple Spice from Starbucks.

I was deeply touched hearing the tragic stories of loss and feeling these peoples pain. However, hanging out of the red mustang convertable pace car, camera firmly in hand for the 3 1/2 hour ride around Los Angeles, was quite a rush. It will be an honor editing this footage into a heartfelt message for raising awareness and the continuing fight for a cure.

Chrissy’s Surprise Birthday Party

Had a blast at the Buffalo Club, Friday night. What a great family! (hey guys, if you need another Brit in the family… i’m there!)
Chrissy turned the big Five-0. And i think she was pretty surprised when she walked into the restaurant only to find 150 of her closest family and friends. Gosh I hope somebody does that for me when i turn 40 :-)

Here are two videos. The first one highlights the entire evening, and the second one is the montage I created, but with a twist. I have included Chrissy’s reactions as she watches it for the first time: PRICELESS!!!

Four Seasons Hotel-Holiday Party

Had a great time last night at the Four Seasons Hotel, Beverly Hills. They held a special holiday party for their preferred vendors and corporate clients. The food was off the hook, and it is always great to hang out socially with other vendors that, when working at an event, rarely get to do.

Welcome back Joe Buissink, who returned to Los Angeles, from living in Oregon. Joe, for those of you who don’t know, is one of the 10 best photographers in the world. It was also great seeing Event Planners Yifat Oren, Paula Gild, Jonathan Reeves and Jennifer Loftfield Hronek, as well as, Jim Eppolito from West Coast Music, master photographer John Solano and, another great videographer, Marc Dahm.

A huge thank you to Sean, Jennifer and all the wonderful staff at the Four Seasons Hotel.

EventDV 25 Symposium 2007

“Who are the most influential videographers working in the field right now?”

25.gif

To answer that question, EventDV Magazine asked its readers to select the EventDV 25, a veritable All Star team of the 25 “hottest” videographers or videography outfits working today. They might not have racked up the kind of lifetime achievement credentials that qualify Hall of Fame candidates (though many of them certainly have), but they’re all doing All-Star caliber work-and wielding All-Star caliber influence-in the event video world.

DAY ONE: Casa Goolsby
9.00 a.m Jody Goolsby puts out a wonderful breakfast as EventDV25 inductees start to show up at Casa Goolsby.
11.00 a.m Introductions and stories. In attendance (in no particular order): Mike Nelson, Hal Slifer, John & Chip Goolsby, Chris & Laura Randall, Mike Jensen, Trisha & Mark Von Lanken, LaDonna Moore, Laura & Steve Moses, Steve Fowler, Jeff & Andee Wright and Me.

Noon:”How can we change the perception of the Wedding Videographer, in the media?”

DAY TWO:
10:00 a.m Breakfast a la Jody, followed by more Show and Tell. More discussion on how we can collectively improve the reputation of the Event Videographer, as well as, financial discussions concerning growing the business and returning a profit.

1.00 p.m Break for lunch: A lovely Mexican Fiesta!
2-6 p.m Saving the world from mediocrity!
7.00 p.m Dinner at Dave & Busters, followed by Pool.

This years EventDV 25 Symposium topped lasts years, for me, in terms of camaraderie, great food and enthusiasm. But more importantly than that, this collective of influential, supremely talented, videographers humbly stepped up to the plate, shared and bared our soles about life, running our businesses, how to make things better for the industry, how we can improve our lives, how important it is to give back, why we do what we do, and finally, just how much we love what we do and its influence on the world in terms of memory preservation, our passion and drive to create something worthwhile and lasting, and how ultimately our clients amazed expressions and tears of joy simply make it all worthwhile.

Not in attendance and sorely missed: Dave Williams, Randy Stubbs, Danny Sayson, Glen Elliott, Ken Ehrhart, Brett Culp, Chris Chibucos, Loi Banh, Kathy & Al Ritondo, Natalie Neal, Alan Naumann, Jason Magbanua, Robert Allen and Chris Watson.

Emmy Awards 2007 Governors Ball

Fantastic, unbelievable night!

Not typically star struck, i am reeling from videotaping such an onslaught of fine TV celebrities. Seeing my faves Keiffer Sutherland and Jeremy Piven in the flesh, certainly brought a smile to my face. Sequoia Productions once again did an amazing job of putting together this 3000 guest party. Music was provided by none other than Mr. Tony Bennett. We were indeed honored to have been chosen to capture this truly extraordinary event.
Thank you to Ari Perilstein who did a splendid job running second camera.
