    EventDV 25 2008

    picture-1.jpg

MADISON, WI–March 23, 2009—EventDV magazine has unveiled the 2008 EventDV 25, and David Robin of the Encino CA, based david robin | films, was named to the list as one of the 25 hottest and most influential videographers in the world. The honorees were announced in a three-part awards show presented last week on EventDV’s online video channel, EventDV-TV, in a presentation viewed more than 4,000 times in a three-day span.

“As the event video industry’s one and only all-star team, the EventDV 25 gives us the opportunity to recognize those videographers who are wielding the most influence today, through their innovative work, educational efforts, and outreach to other videographers around the world,” said EventDV Editor-in-Chief Stephen Nathans-Kelly. “To make sure we recognize the right people, we turn the selection process entirely over to the ‘fans,’ and let our readers pick the team. Over the six-week online voting process, readers cast more than 2,000 votes, and our all-star team emerged. This year’s team reflects the increasingly international flavor of the business, with representatives from six countries and four continents.” David Robin is the only Los Angeles County videographer on this year’s list.

In addition to voting for their selections, readers had the opportunity to supply a brief description of their chosen candidate’s merits. Of David Robin, one voter wrote, “Still the video industry’s pioneer triple threat, David knows how to make great videos!”

EventDV, the Authority for Event Videographers, is published monthly by Information Today, Inc. and read by over 23,000 event videographers and independent video producers around the world. For more information on EventDV, visit www.eventdv.net. To view the 2008 EventDV 25 awards presentation online, visit www.eventdv-tv.com.

I am so honored and humbled to tell you that I was included in the list. This is the fourth year in a row that this has happened for me. I feel so blessed to be accepted by my peers (who voted). Congratulations to the other 24 amazing filmmakers who made the list.

The Canon 5D MkII Digital SLR HD Camera/Camcorder

It’s a bird…It’s a plane…No it’s my new pro Canon still camera, that shoots magnificent HD video!

    Why, you ask?

Finally a tapeless video camera that shoots full frame HD, with the advantage of 35mm lenses, and shallow depth of field.

    The creativity is endless…

    THE LONGEST DAY: Trailers

Twenty-four of the hottest photograhers in North America converge on Universal City for a “secret mission.” All they know is that it will be a project that will last 24 hours. They’ve come as far as Vancouver and Chattanooga, without a clue as to why. When they arrive, they find out that they’re being split into two teams. Each team is given 24 hours to write, shoot, and edit an original short film. Each team is also playing for one of two charities: Thirst Relief and Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.

I was brought in as creative consultant for Team B, and my responsibilities included brainstorming ideas, as well as, shooting and editing the original short film. Ultimately, the viewing audience will determine the winner, which will be announced at WPPI 2009.

    TEAM B (My Team)

    TEAM A

Is it me, or is Team B having SO MUCH MORE FUN!!!!!!

Very excited to announce that we have a three page feature in the latest Wedding & Event Resource Guide. Please click on thumbnail to view it full size!

Published quarterly, Wedding & Event Videography Resource Guide also includes links to related video in the Members-Only section of the WEVA website. “It’s WEVA members who are leading this industry worldwide and sharing their experience,” said Dan Argenas WEVA’s Director of Association Communications. “Each edition of Wedding & Event Videography Resource Guide reveals what they’re doing, how they’re doing it, and more.”

    THE LONGEST DAY

Ron Dawson invited me to participate in a groundbreaking production. He assembled a cast of over 20 of the top wedding and portrait photographers in the world to star in a short reality TV series. This was to be the buzz-builder leading up to the WPPI Convention, as well as to raise donations for two very worthy charities: Thirst Relief International & Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. With collaborative effort and support from these great sponsors (Microsoft Expression Media 2, Triple Scoop Music, Asuka Book, Kubota Image Tools, ShowIt Sites, Photographers’ Edit, and Loktah), we were able to raise over $5000 to donate to these two charities.

The photographers were divided into two teams. Each team were given 24 hours to write, shoot, and edit an original short film related to photography. I came on board as creative consultant for one team (Team B) and “field reporter,” reporting to the reality TV cameras my opinions of how the team was doing. I also shot, and edited the piece. It was exhausting (i was working for 30 hours straight) but we had a blast!
My good buddy Loyd Calomay did the same for Team A (the definitely weaker team :-) ).
